6 Healthy Ways to Manage Weight for Sports

Sometimes an athlete needs to trim a few pounds to get ready for competition, especially for sports such as rowing and wrestling which have weight classes. Cutting weight — or dramatic weight loss in a short period of time — is not a healthy way to reach this goal, and isn't recommended for young athletes.
Some athletes believe that cutting weight will improve their athletic performance, but dramatic and fast weight loss has the opposite effect. Over-exercising to quickly lose weight uses up stored muscle fuel and may leave athletes depleted when it comes time to compete. Extreme dieting or calorie restriction makes needed nutrients, such as carbohydrates, sparse. And, fasting or not eating for an extended period can lead to dehydration and loss of strength and stamina.
Other ways to hasten weight loss such as wearing a rubber suit, "sweating it out" in a sauna or taking diuretics may lead to dehydration. While dehydration will result in weight loss, it may also negatively affect athletic performance. Studies show that a 150-pound athlete who loses 3 pounds through sweat may experience cramping, early fatigue and blunted athletic performance.

Healthy Ways to Manage Weight

The secret to making weight cutoffs is staying at a healthy weight all season long. Follow these six tips to safely stay ready for competition.
  • Schedule Eating
Believe it or not, the best way to keep an athlete's appetite satisfied and provide important nutrients to muscles is to eat with a routine. Try to eat breakfast, lunch and dinner at about the same time each day, and work in healthy snacks in between. Never skip meals, as this may promote hunger and lead to poor food choices and overeating.
  • Balance the Food Groups
A variety of foods are important to a healthy diet and peak performance. Make sure to include dairy or other calcium-rich foods, fruits, vegetables, whole grains and lean protein foods in your everyday eating and at each meal. Load up half your plate with fruits and veggies and you'll naturally downgrade the calorie impact. Remember, a balanced diet not only offers up necessary nutrition, it may also help you feel more satisfied.
  • Trim Away the Fat
Fried foods such as french fries and potato chips carry a lot of calories because they are high in fat. Instead, choose a baked potato and you'll cut unneeded calories from your diet.
  • Tackle the Treats
Foods such as soda, candy and other desserts with added sugars carry calories but few nutrients. While one or two of these items can fit into an active athlete's diet each day, staying at a competitive weight means you'll need to keep a cap on them. And, if you're trying to lose extra pounds, cutting back on treats will help you get the job done.
  • Eat Smart Snacks
Foods that contain carbohydrates and protein are good bets for keeping your body fueled. If you are snacking more than once or twice a day, you may be getting too many calories from snacks. Be smart with snacks — let them top off your energy tank, offer important nutrition and, above all, don't let them take over your diet. Try these healthy snack options: an apple and peanut butter; Greek yogurt; whole grain cereal and low-fat milk; a protein bar; or raw vegetables and cheese.
  • Watch Food Serving Sizes
When you're hungry, it's easy to overeat. Test yourself and your portions by checking the serving size on food packages. Eating appropriate portions will help you stay on track with your overall calorie intake.
Remember, if you're carrying some extra weight, work on gradually losing it through the season rather than all at once before a competition or weigh in.

15 Heart-Healthy Foods to Work into Your Diet wow...

in this post i will explain about

15 Heart-Healthy Foods to Work into Your Diet

A healthy diet can be good for your heart as well as your waistline.
“You can definitely reduce your risk of developing cardiovascular disease by eating certain foods every day,” says Julie Zumpano, RD, LD, a dietitian in the Preventive Cardiology and Nutrition Program at Cleveland Clinic. “There is a great variety of fruits and vegetables that are good for your heart.”
“Try to eat foods that are in their natural form, as they come from the ground,” Ms. Zumpano says, recommending what she calls the “whole-foods diet.”
That diet includes, of course, heart-healthy foods such as fish, whole grains, vegetables and fruits, but don’t be afraid to treat yourself occasionally with a glass of red wine or a piece of dark chocolate, Ms. Zumpano says. She suggests using this list as a guide to create meals and snacks with a healthy focus. Just a few simple swaps could make a big difference for your cardiovascular health.

15 foods that are good for your heart

  1. Eat fish high in omega-3s, such as salmon, tuna, mackerel, herring and trout.
  2. A handful of healthy nuts such as almonds or walnuts will satisfy your hunger and help your heart.
  3. Berries are chock full of heart-healthy phytonutrients and soluble fiber. Try blueberries, strawberries, cranberries or raspberries in cereal or yogurt.
  4. Flaxseeds contain omega-3 fatty acids, fiber and phytoestogens to boost heart health. Take them in ground or milled form to reap the greatest benefit.
  5. Oatmeal: the comfort-food nutrient powerhouse.
  6. Dark beans, such as kidney or black beans, are high in fiber, B-vitamins, minerals and other good stuff. Veggie chili, anyone?
  7. A 4-ounce glass of red wine (up to two for men and one for women per day) can help improve good (HDL) cholesterol levels.
  8. Try marinated tofu in a stir-fry with fresh veggies for a heart-healthy lunch or dinner.
  9. Red, yellow and orange veggies such as carrots, sweet potatoes, red peppers and acorn squash are packed with carotenoids, fiber and vitamins to help your heart.
  10. Popeye was right – spinach packs a punch! Use it in sandwiches and salads instead of lettuce.
  11. Fruits such as oranges, cantaloupes and papaya are rich in beta-carotene, potassium, magnesium and fiber.
  12. Tender, sweet asparagus is filled with mighty nutrients such as beta-carotene, folate and fiber, and only provide 25 calories per cup, or 5 calories per large spear.
  13. Tomatoes – even sun-dried varieties in winter months – provide lycopene, vitamin C and alpha- and beta-carotene.
  14. Dark chocolate is good for your heart health, but just be sure that it’s at least 70 percent cocoa.
  15. Crisp, fresh broccoli florets dipped in hummus are a terrific heart-healthy snack with a whopping list of nutrients, including vitamins C and E, potassium, folate, calcium and fiber  . thank you for read my blog gays...

in this post i will explain about

Healthy Living Tips: 9 Ways to Stay Healthy For Life

Did you ever make a promise to yourself that you were going to get healthier?
Maybe you wanted to lose weight, get stronger, have more energy, or just feel better.
Or maybe you were under doctor’s orders to eat right and exercise more.
Well, that all sounds great. We all want to improve our health. But with so many choices and information about how to get healthier, it can be hard to ever get started.
So, instead of trying to learn about the latest fitness craze or nutrition fad, we think you should keep it simple. Stick with the basics.
After all, if you want to live a long and healthy life, you don’t need to run marathons or eat spinach every day.
But you do need to make smart decisions that will improve your health over the long run.
So, here’s 9 healthy living tips that will keep your mind, body and spirit humming for years to come.

Healthy Living Tips To Keep You Fit and Well

1. Eat Right
Healthy eating is tougher now than ever. The average supermarket or restaurant is packed with unhealthy choices that cause weight gain and sap energy. Over time, making poor food choices can cause disease and illness.
But you don’t have to be crazy about it. Stick with the basics. Eat natural foods often and organic when you can. Build your plate around lean protein, healthy fats and plant-based foods. Cut out the junk.
You’ll find that once you think about healthy eating as eating simply, it will be easier to eat more good, real food and and cut out the bad, fake stuff.
2. Stay Fit
People who exercise regularly are generally happier and healthier than people who don’t.
So get motivated to exercise by finding a friend to work out with, do it outdoors, and schedule it in advance. Once a workout is on your calendar you’ll be more likely to stick with it.
And when all else fails just put on your workout clothes. Sometimes the hardest part is just getting started.
3. Stress Less
In the US alone, 77% of people regularly experience physical symptoms of stress. That’s not a group you want to be a part of.
You can manage stress by exercising regularly, cleaning clutter and bad relationships from your life, and getting enough rest.
Speaking of rest…
4. Sleep Well
While skipping out on a good night’s sleep every now and then isn’t going to hurt, making a habit of restless nights and tiring days can wreak havoc on your health.
So sleep better by setting a sleep schedule, minimizing distractions, sleeping in a dark room, and most important, making sleep a priority.
5. Think Positive
Healthy living tips should only be about your body, right?
Wrong!
The mind-body connection is well established and lots of research shows positive thinking can benefit your health, personal life, and professional success.
6. Choose Happiness
Sure, some people are naturally happier than others. But there are things you can consciously do to be happier. And guess what…they’re all free.
So if you want to be happier…which, well, who doesn’t, there’s a few things to do. Practice gratitude. Help others. Limit negative disruptions. Learn how to meditate.
This stuff is proven to increase happiness, so give it a shot…and turn that frown, upside-down!
7. Prioritize personal relationships
The benefits of friendship and romantic relationships are many. They can increase feel-good chemicals in your body (endorphins) and reduce stress hormones. All of that adds up to improved health.
So tell someone you love how you feel about them. Thank a friend for always being there. And prioritize the important relationships in your life so they’ll be a pillar of strength you can lean on when you need to.
8. Respect your body
There’s lots of money to be made in products that you put in your body. Medical drugs. Nutritional supplements. Vitamins and minerals. The companies that create these products spend billions of dollars each year convincing you to add them to your health routine.
But sometimes the healthiest choices you can make are about what you keep out of your body, not what you add to it.
This means never smoking cigarettes. It means drinking alcohol in moderation. It also means making junk-food a thing of the past.
9. Follow your purpose
Everyone has a purpose in life. Yours may be focused on your career. Or your family. Or your hobby. Whatever it is, spend as much time following your purpose so you can align your spirit with your mission in life. Good health will follow.

How To Clean Your Lungs Easily In Just 3 Days

Many people have never tried a cigarette and still have problems with the lungs, while others smoke for 45 years, and even after that long period their lungs are still functioning well … it depends from person to person, and below we will tell you a few tips how you can purify the lungs within three days. How To Clean Your Lungs Easily In Just 3 Days

  • Two days before the process of detoxification, it is necessary to eliminate all dairy products from use. The body needs to get rid of toxins from the dairy products before the purification of the lungs.
  • Before the first day of the regime, drink a cup of herbal tea before going to bed. It will release the toxins from the intestines. The lungs must not be overloaded with difficult work of any other part of the body during the purification.
  • Drain two lemons in 300ml of water before breakfast.
  • Drink 300ml of grapefruit juice. If you do not like the taste, you can replace it with pineapple juice. These juices contain natural antioxidants that improve the breathing system.
  • Drink 300ml of pure carrot juice between breakfast and lunch. Carrot juice helps you alkalize the blood during the three days of purification.
  • You have to drink 400ml of juice rich in potassium during lunch. Potassium acts as a tonic for cleaning. Before going to bed make 400ml of cranberry juice. It will help in the fight against bacteria in the lungs that can cause infections.
  • Take care of your body and do exercises.
  • A warm bath of 20 minutes each day will allow the body through sweating to lose more toxins.
  • Put 5 to 10 drops of eucalyptus in a bowl of boiling water. Stand over the dish and place a clean towel over your head. Inhale the steam until it cools.

11 Foods We Eat That Are Actually Poisonous wow...

in this post i will explain about

11 Foods We Eat That Are Actually Poisonous

There are many things in the world that can kill us but we typically consider our veggies and fruits a pretty safe bet. So it may come as a surprise to hear that many foods that you eat every day are actually quite poisonous and should be eaten with proper precautions. Here are 11 common every day foods that are actually poisonous.

1. Nutmeg

nutmeg-e1439142528665
It’s known as a hallucinogen that’s right in your kitchen. Reports after ingesting just a teaspoon of nutmeg show horrible psychological effects and even worse side effects. They include nausea, elevated heart rate, dry mouth, vomiting, which can last for several days. Other side effects such as loss of balance and lack of concentration can last over a week. It’s best to save the nutmeg for your spice rack.

2. Mushrooms

death-cap-mushrooms-deadly-e1439142506239
Mushrooms have been dubbed world saviors as they could potentially clean up anything from oil spills to nuclear meltdowns. They are quite nutritious as well, however, 5% of mushrooms are toxic. While some mushrooms that are poisonous are brightly colored and easy to tell, most of the deadliest mushrooms have a relatively unexciting exterior. For example, one of the deadliest mushrooms in the world is called the Death Cap, and rightfully so as its earned its name by being responsible for the death of Roman emperor Claudius, Russian tsar, and a pope. Its appearance its similar to several edible mushrooms.

3. Kidney beans

kidney-beans-poisonous-e1439142493164
They contain large amounts of the glycoprotein lectin. As few as four uncooked beans could cause extreme nausea, diarrhea and vomiting. Many cases related to kidney poisoning were due to “slow cookers” which did not reach a high enough temperature to destroy the lectin.

4. Apples

apple-seeds-poisonous
Innocent looking apple seeds contain cyanide. Cyanide is extremely toxic to humans and has been linked to many famous murders and suicides. If enough of them are eaten, it can cause vomiting and other side effects. Peach and apricot pits also contain cyanide.

5. Puffer Fish

puffer-fish-japansese-delicacy-poison
A fish considered delicacy by the Japanese, can actually cause paralysis or even death if not prepared correctly. Typically, chefs spend 3  or more years in training so they can prepare this dangerous delicacy.

6. Tomatoes

tomato-plant-poison-e1439142420632
Tomatine is a toxin that is typically found in the leaves and stems of tomato plants. Large quantities are reported in green tomatoes, however no tomato poisoning cases have been reported thus far and tomatoes are considered safe to consume.

7. Brazil nuts

brazil-nuts-radioactive-e1439142396970
One of the most radioactive foods that we consume, Brazil nuts are 1000x more radioactive than other foods. However, majority of this is not retained by your body and in moderation, Brazil nuts are typically considered a very healthy food. Another radioactive food that we consume every day is the banana.

8. Potatoes

potatoes-poison-e1439142295770
While death by potato poisoning is quite rare it is not unheard of. They contain excessive amounts of solanine which could lead to poisoning. Eating enough green potatoes could kill you.

9. Rhubarb

rhubarb-poisonSurprisingly its not the Rhubarb’s red stem that is dangerous, but the green leaves which contain oxalic acid. It can lead to formation of kidney stones, and if enough leaves are eaten, it can kill you.

10. Cherries

cherries-cyanide-e1439142215634Another delicious yet deadly fruit as the pits contain hydrogen cyanide which can cause breathing difficulties, vomiting, and possibly kidney failure. It is especially dangerous for pets to consume. However, most pits, even when ingested by humans will pass straight through your system without being digested and most likely won’t cause poisoning.

11. Raw Cashews

cashews-poison-ivy-deadly
Believe it or not, the “raw” cashews in your local supermarket are not actually raw and have been treated with steam urushiol, a chemical that’s also present in poison ivy. Consuming this chemical will lead to similar effects to poison ivy and can possibly even kill you.

7 Powerful Benefits of Manuka Honey (With Studies) wow...

in this post i will explain about

7 Powerful Benefits of Manuka Honey (With Studies)

For thousands of years, honey was used not only for its sweet, sweet nectar but also for its incredible healing properties. People still purchase honey for the same reasons today, however, most of the commercial honey does not provide the latter. We explained the difference between raw and commercial honey in our other article, but this article is about neither. Today, let’s talk about Manuka honey and its incredible benefits.

7 Clinically Proven Benefits of Manuka Honey

1. Natural Antibiotic & Antibacterialnatural-antibacterial-antibiotic-manuka-honey

Manuka honey contains two ingredients, MG and hydrogen peroxide, which make it a powerful antibiotic and antibacterial agent. MG (methylglyoxal) is found in most honey, but the highest concentration is found in the nectar of the Manuka flowers. Another study also shows that this type of honey has significant antibacterial properties. [1] [2]

2. Treats Burns and Wounds

acne-manuka-honeyThere are several studies that show that Manuka honey can be effective in shortening the healing time of mild burns and wounds. It may be also effective in fighting off some infections and promote overall healing. It’s important to note that anywhere where an infection can occur, medical grade honey (with impurities removed) is used. At home treatments are not recommended for serious burns for wounds. [3] [4]

3. Improves Oral Health

oral health manuka honey benefitsManuka honey may enhance your oral health as well. Studies show that honey can be effective in preventing dental caries and gingivitis. [5] [6]

4. Reduces Inflammation

inflammation reducer manuka honey benefitsNational Cancer Institute approved a proposal for the use of Manuka honey to help reduce inflammation of the esophagus after chemotherapy. [7]

5. Lower Cholesterol

Studies show that by substituting sugar to honey,  women can effectively lower their LDL cholesterol. Choose Manuka honey for added benefits. [8]

6. Improves Your Gastrointestinal Health

Honey has been shown to be effective in reducing gastrointestinal pathogens and even found to be potentially effective microorganisms like Salmonella. [9]

7. Low Stomach Acid, Acid Reflux and SIBO

acid-reflux-manuka-honey-benefits
One study has shown that the bacteria related to all three of these conditions, Clostridium difficile, was found to be susceptible to Manuka honey. This may offer an effective way of treating conditions that are caused by the organism and help balance your digestive system. [10]

Manuka Honey Origins

Most commercial honey is stripped of its good properties and does not contain any bee pollen. Its benefits are minimal and if taken in large quantities, it may even be detrimental to your health (due to the high fructose and glucose levels).
Manuka_flowers_and_native_bee
However, Manuka honey is a different story. First, all real Manuka honey comes from New Zealand. It comes from bees that pollinate the native Manuka bush. Only those specific bees in specific regions of New Zealand can create this powerful honey. Then, this honey is tested and verified by independent labs for its properties and exported all over the world.
From the benefits mentioned above, you can see that Manuka honey is one of nature’s most powerful natural medicines. Manuka honey is the best form of honey available. Its incredible anti-microbial properties have been credited due to the enzyme called methylglyoxal. Manuka honey contains about 100 times more of this enzyme than conventional honey. [11]

Manuka Honey Nutrition Facts

raw-manuka-honeyWhile raw unfiltered honeys already contain a well-balanced and nutritious profile, Manuka honey is said to contain 4x the nutritional content of conventional honeys. Here’s a profile of raw unfiltered honey:
  • Amino acids
  • B vitamins (B6, thiamin, niacin, riboflavin, pantothenic acid)
  • Calcium
  • Copper
  • Iron
  • Magnesium
  • Manganese
  • Phosphorus
  • Potassium
  • Sodium
  • Zinc

How Manuka Quality is Measured, Unique Manuka Factor

For every good product, there are products that are produced of lesser quality. So how do you know if the Manuka honey that you choose is the real deal? Well in 1981, researchers of the New Zealand University revealed that Manuka honey contains higher levels of enzymes than conventional honey. Certain strains of this new found honey were found to be particulary rich in dihydroxyacetone, metgylgloxal and hydrogen peroxide.
This powerful trio is what makes up to what we now know as Unique Manuka Factor or UMF. UMF is the globally recognized standard in identifying and measuring the strength of the Manuka honey. The UMF, similar to some other food labels that we have in United States, essentially guarantees that the honey sold is of medicinal quality.
The UMF rating in comes really handy because not all Manuka honey is created equal and contains both unique properties. Typical Manuka contains only the hydrogen peroxide properties, which are common with most types of honey. However, what makes the UMF honey unique is that it contains both. Natural UMF properties as well as the conventional properties of honey which combine to make something really powerful. These properties also make the honey very stable. And unlike in most honey, the hydrogen peroxide found in Manuka honey won’t be easily destroyed by light, heat or enzymes of the body.

Manuka Honey vs Raw Honey vs Organic Honey

It’s easy to get confused at the store when there are tons of labels. However, the only honeys that really matter are Manuka, raw and organic. But what’s the difference between them? Is one really better than another?
Organic – this label refers to the way the product is made and what ingredients are used. For honey it carries specific meanings such as how the hive is made, how the colony is kept and acquired and more. While this sounds good, thanks to companies like Monsanto and also farms that use fertilizers and pesticides, finding pure uncontaminated honey is pretty tough. Bees can fly for miles outside of the farm and the chances of having 16 square miles of fields with no-chemicals is quite slim. Thus, regardless of the practices of the farm that sells the honey, it hardly guarantees 100% purity of the end product. You can read about all the requirements for organic honey here.
Raw Honey – means that the honey is sold as it exists and was obtained through straining, settling or extraction. It also means that it was not pasteurized and heated above 118 degrees Fahrenheit during storage or production. Same issues occur as with organic honey. Many tout this as the highest quality honey available and in some cases it may be true, but it certainly doesn’t guarantee that the honey won’t contain at least one pesticide.
Manuka Honey is honey that was specifically harvested from bees that visit the Manuka flower (Leptospermum scoparium). The honey is then tested by independent labs for its qualities and given a UMF score. The higher score guarantees that the honey is medicinal quality (depending on the score). Just like raw and organic honey, it is certainly not exempt from possible contamination, however its very specific process is what makes it the highest quality honey. No other type of honey offers the same guarantee.
So for every day honey, your best bet is raw honey. As for organic honey, that is still a much better choice than commercial honey, but until USDA places some real regulations and testing on what’s inside (contaminants) the honey, it is no better than raw honey. Of course, there are still exceptions to when organic honey may be your best choice. However, for getting the most benefits out of your honey and for medicinal quality honey, your only choice is Manuka honey.

How to Find Genuine Manuka Honey

The UMF rating essentially rates the level of antibacterial activity in the honey. The minimum rating is UMF5, however, it is not considered “UMF Manuka Honey” or “Active Manuka Honey” until it’s UMF 10+. Anything that is within the range of UMF10-15 is considered effective. UMF16+ is considered of superior quality.
Genuine UMF Manuka Honey will have these four things:
  • It will have a UMF trademark clearly labeled on the front of the container.
  • It will be from a New Zealand UMF licensed company and labelled in New Zealand.
  • It will have the UMF company’s name and license number on the label.
  • It will have a UMF rating number of 5-16+. If it is labeled without the UMF or without a number, then it is not the genuine item.
Here are the general uses for each of the UMF labels:
0-4 Non-therapeutic
4-9 Maintenance level with general honey health benefits
10-14 Supports natural healing and bacterial balance
15+ Superior levels of phenols that are highly therapeutic but shouldn’t exceed taking 1 tbsp at a time [12]
Those with allergies to bee products should also avoid consuming Manuka honey. For others, in moderation, Manuka can be one of the most powerful foods in your home.

Recommended Manuka Honey

Thanks to all its powerful benefits, an addition of a Manuka jar or two can be one of the best purchases you’ve made for your home. The best thing about Manuka honey, that if stored properly (without too much heat) it can be good for years to come! We’ve searched the web for Manuka honey that meets all the criteria and here’s some good options that we’ve found below.
